Grants of up to $5,000 to Texas volunteer fire departments and nonprofit EMS organizations for health and wellness programs aimed at decreasing emergency responder injuries and deaths. Funding is intended to support the cost of exercise equipment, physical examinations for members, and other health and wellness-related items.

The 2019 Emergency Responder Health and Wellness Grant program of the VFIS of Texas and Texas Mutual Insurance Company offers funding for fire departments and non-profit EMS organizations in Texas. Grants will be awarded based on financial need and are intended to encourage participation in a health and wellness program to prevent emergency responder deaths and injuries. All-volunteer or mostly-volunteer fire departments and non-profit EMS organizations that serve a population of 100,000 or less and are legally organized in Texas are eligible for the program.

Physicals following the standards of NFPA1582 are recommended, but not required.

Pre-Application Information:

Grant application deadline is December 31, 2018.

Applications will be reviewed and notice will be sent to those awarded a grant by January 31, 2019.

Applications may be mailed, faxed, or emailed to the VFIS of Texas.

Departments will need to apply for the grant, expend the funds and then send in copies of receipts in order to receive the grant funds. Departments will be responsible for sending in paid receipts by May 1, 2019 in order to receive reimbursement.
