Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $4,000 to USA nonprofits, K-12 schools, colleges and universities, and public libraries to promote literacy for youth in states where the funding source has a business presence. Funding is intended to support literacy programs that target K-12 students who are:
- Below grade level readers;
- Readers with learning disabilities;
- English Language Learners; or
- Students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP).

Grant funding is provided to assist in the following areas:
- Implementing new or expanding existing literacy programs.
- Purchasing new technology or equipment to support literacy initiatives.
- Purchasing books, materials, or software for literacy programs.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant must be one of the following:
- A qualified 501(c)(3) organization with a valid IRS tax ID
- A K-12 Private or Public School
- A College or University
- A Public Library

Organization must provide direct service and reside within a state in which Dollar General operates. Organization must be located within 20 miles of a Dollar General store. See links in Grant Coverage Areas below for a Store Locator link.

Organizations that have received a Youth Literacy grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation in both 2017 and 2018 are ineligible.

One Youth Literacy grant application may be submitted per organization. Organizations submitting multiple applications for this category will not be considered for funding.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation respects the dignity and differences of all people. This provision is not intended to deny support or funding for organizations that offer programs and services to a specifically defined population or group of people.

Grants will be announced on September 5, 2019.
