Request a Grant Writer

Grants to multiple Southern USA states and territories researchers at IHEs, government agencies, agribusinesses, and community-based organizations for education and research projects that address sustainable agriculture. Applicants must submit a pre-proposal prior to submitting a full proposal. Eligible states and territories include Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

Research Grants

Research Grants are competitive research grants for teams of interdisciplinary researchers that encourage a systems approach in sustainable agriculture. This approach recognizes that ag systems are complex and that interaction among components determines characteristics of the system. Ag systems also need to be studied intact regardless of the spatial or temporal scale. Research grants are research-based with an educational/outreach component to extend the project findings to the public.

To retain its historical strengths, to advance sustainable agriculture, and to encourage a systems approach to research, SSARE offers three categories for Research Grants: production research, postharvest-food systems research, or a continuum that spans both.

Education Grants

Education Grants accommodate organizations and individuals who are interested in education-based projects, rather than research-driven projects. Education Grants are competitive grants that provide sustainable agriculture education and outreach strategies for NGOs, researchers, community organizations and other ag professionals. Education Grants strictly fund education and outreach activities related to sustainable agriculture whose outcomes are intended to benefit farmers and farming communities. There is no research involved in these grant projects.

Education Grants should provide an educational approach to mitigate or solve a problem and encourage farmer adoption of recommended practices or strategies. This approach must be realistic, acceptable to farmers, logical, and capable of leading to the actions and benefits described.
