Prizes ranging from $300 to $1,800 to USA, Canada, and International individuals or teams of two to three people ages 13-24 to present innovative solutions to one of nine global challenges, as identified by the United Nations. Groups must brainstorm and submit original ideas. Finalists will be asked to write a one-minute commercial storyboard and script describing their solution.

This year participants are being asked to imagine solutions for epic challenges to humanity - from eradicating hunger and poverty to achieving peace, justice, and equality. The nine goals are:

  • Goal 3: Health and Well-being: Resonance Philanthropies Youth Well-Being Challenge
  • Goal 4: Quality Education: Intuit Education Sustainable Careers Challenge
  • Goal 5: Gender Equality: Citi Foundation Gender Equality Challenge
  • Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy: Bank of the West Clean Energy Challenge
  • Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: Mastercard Financial Access Challenge
  • Goal 10: Reduce Inequalities: PayPal Equality for All Challenge
  • Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities: Assurant Stronger Communities Challenge
  • Goal 13: Climate Action: Moody's Foundation Climate Action Challenge
  • Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions: EY Belonging Challenges

For additional information about all Goals, see: https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/

Applicants may ask for help from a teacher, coach, or other mentor. The work must be original, but applicants are welcome to seek guidance as they explore the challenges and brainstorm about solutions. NFTE encourages community involvement.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Anyone between the ages of 13 and 24 is eligible to compete, and you can nominate any young innovators you know so they get a special invitation.

Applicants must be at least 13 but no older than 24 as of December 16, 2019.

Sign up to compete solo (as a mighty team of one) or invite a friend or two to join you. Teams of one, two or three people are welcome to compete.

Applicants are welcome to enter as many challenges as they like. The same person or same group of people can register as a team multiple times in order to compete in multiple challenge categories. You can easily compete on any number of teams if someone else is designated as the team leader.

Pre-Application Information:

Applicants should register to participate in the World Series of Innovation. First round entries are due by 11pm EST on December 16, 2019.

All first round submissions are evaluated by a panel of judges who have been trained on the judging rubric. The Top 10 entries in each challenge category advance to the final round on January 21.

Finalists get a chance to shoot a one-minute video "commercial" or "elevator pitch" for their idea and convince the judges they deserve to win the big prize in their challenge category. Videos are due February 11.

A select group of final-round judges watches all the one-minute videos submitted by finalists, scores them, then winners are determined for each challenge based on cumulative total scores. Winners are announced March 18.
